Richard Hopkins
Richard Hopkins is a Tallahassee-based caller who has been active
around Florida since 1990, calling regularly in Tallahassee and
occasionally at Orlando, Pensacola, Jacksonville, Gainesville, White
Springs, Florida Fiddlers', the Atlanta midweek dances,
and other fine dance venues. He calls a
dynamic mixture of contras, squares, Sicilian circles and circle mixers,
and is noted for the variety and interest of the dances he chooses and
for his dry sense of humor. He has a reputation, only partially deserved,
for calling in a New England style favoring elegance over charisma; but
he confesses to a strong liking for straight-ahead hard-driving old-time
music combined with interesting, smooth-flowing dances. In real life,
he is a mild-mannered federal bureaucrat.
